It’s easy to update your Microsoft password directly from your machine
Microsoft’s operating system is by far the most commonly used in the world, with a market share of nearly 85%. Windows is a highly safe operating system today, and this article discusses how to change or reset your Microsoft password.
The screenshots used in this article are from a Windows 10 computer. However, the method is much the same as previous versions of Windows.
How to change your password for Microsoft
You can update your Microsoft password directly from your computer, making it a fast and easy operation. The first thing you need to do is log in to your computer using your current password or biometric details. If you’ve forgotten your password and can’t log in, check out the next section to reset it.
After you access your computer. Open the Start menu (identified by the Windows symbol) in the bottom left corner of your screen. From here, press the Settings button, which will be the second option from the bottom of the left-hand menu.
From the Settings app, press Accounts that will have the sub-heading “Your Accounts, Email, Sync, Job, Family.”
The Accounts menu will show you six choices. To modify your password, press the Sign-in Options tab, which is the third item on the menu.
All that’s left to do now is press Password, which can be found among the numerous other sign-in options available on your computer. This menu also allows you to configure a number of other security-related settings, such as Dynamic Lock and Privacy Lock. Once you click Password, click Change.
You’ll need to insert your pin before you can edit your credential. If you set up a two-factor authentication on your account, you will need to authenticate your identity using your mobile device or another device.
Finally, after following all of the above steps, you will be able to enter your existing password and the new one. This is also where we’re going to pick up in the next section if you’re hoping to regain access to your account. After entering the necessary details, click Next and you will be done. You’ve changed your Microsoft password now!
How to reset the Microsoft Password
If you’ve lost access to your account, you’re going to have to take a much more difficult path to reset your password instead of just changing it. To do this, follow the steps outlined above before you hit the screen asking you to enter your current credential. The choice “Forgot my current password” is at the bottom of this tab. Click here.
The next move is to check your identity by using an authenticator app or a one-time password sent to your e-mail address. You can also enter the account recovery code here (if you have one) by clicking “Use a different verification option” and then “I don’t have any of these.”
No matter which form of authentication you use, you will be guided to the penultimate screen to enter your new password. The procedure will be completed by clicking on “Next.” You’ve now successfully regained access to your Microsoft account!
